Pest Control for Raccoons
If you have a problem with a raccoon or multiple raccoons, this site is full of advice on how to handle the problem properly. I have dozens of pages covering many
different types of problem raccoon scenarios, and photos on identification of raccoon damage, etc. My two most
popular articles are:
Click here for information on how to get a raccoon out of the attic.
Click here for information on how to trap a raccoon properly.
NOTE: If you are looking for a pest control company to solve your raccoon problem, I have spent hundreds of hours compiling a complete United States
directory of people who can help. Click here for a
complete listing of hundreds of professional raccoon removal experts serving
every city in the USA.

A traditional pest control company is not your best bet for a raccoon issue. Pest control companies typically deal with insects, and they typically use poison to address the problem. So they spray poison for
ants, or use special poison systems for termites, etc. They treat the property on a monthly or quarterly basis, and just go home to home on a schedule, applying chemicals and poison. Wildlife control, on the
other hand, is very different. The removal of wildlife is usually a one-time specialty job. It involves inspecting and handling a unique situation every time. Poisons are not used! Click here to read about
raccoon poison, and why no such thing exists. Nuisance wildlife removal companies do live trapping and removal, or exclusion, of the animals, not spraying poison. Wildlife control
and pest control are completely different industries.
You will have a much better chance of solving your
raccoon problem if you identify the root cause of the problem - are you leaving garbage outside that is attracting the raccoons? Do you have open holes in your roof - maybe the ducts or the eaves - that raccoons
can use to enter the house and attic? You've got to solve these problems, so that raccoons won't have a reason to use your property or house. Read about raccoon prevention here.
If there's no way to prevent them and you need to get rid of them, then trapping is your best bet. The animals need to be trapped, removed, and relocated far away from your property. This is not always as easy as it
sounds, so you may want to call a pest control company, as you may call it, or as I call it, a nuisance wildlife control company. Wildlife specialists don't kill the animals, but they trap and remove them, and fix
the damage they cause - such as the openings into your house. Check on my directory for a wildlife operator in your area.

Actual Situation: Hi we are interested in your service of removal of raccoon in attic. Please call me earliest convinience. We live in Rochester Hills. It seems just happened, yesterday for sure. Sometimes we don't hear any noise, sometimes we hear thumping and scratching and walking sounds in the
attic and walls, and sometimes clanging. Possibly she is coming in and out from vent. First time we heard the noise was about a week ago. Hope to hear from you soon. Makiko
My response: I do not service Rochester Hills, but I do know a good wildlife operator in that area, if you click on my directory. He'll be able to find out how the raccoon is getting in, through the vent or otherwise, and trap and remove the adult, and find
if there are any baby raccoons in the attic, which is a common thing.
Actual Situation: Good morning, I had a raccoon do some damage to my townhouse roof and to my attack. The good news is that the raccoon did not get in my house. Once the roof is fixed, is there a chance that the raccoon will come back?
Would you suggest setting trappers to catch the raccoon? I’m in Tinley Park, Illinois. If you could let me know if I should get someone, and if you have any numbers, it would be greatly appreciated.
My response: You can't fix the roof until the raccoon is out of the attic - and there's a good chance that it's a female raccoon with babies at this time of year. They all must be removed. If you simply fix the roof, the raccoon
will tear it back up again. You have to get the animals out of the area.

Please be kind to raccoons! They are intelligent animals, and believe it or not, they definitely have emotions! |
