Wildlife Education - Information About Raccoons in the house

Raccoon Exterminator

If you have a problem with a raccoon or multiple raccoons, this site is full of advice on how to handle the problem properly. I have dozens of pages covering many different types of problem raccoon scenarios, and photos on identification of raccoon damage, etc. My two most popular articles are:

Click here for information on how to get a raccoon out of the attic.
Click here for information on how to trap a raccoon properly.

NOTE: If you are looking for an exterminator to solve your raccoon problem, I have spent hundreds of hours compiling a complete United States directory of people who can help. Click here for a complete listing of hundreds of professional raccoon removal experts serving every city in the USA.

If you actually do want to exterminate the raccoon, I have written articles on how to kill a raccoon and an article with information on raccoon poison.

Now, if you're just having a raccoon problem and need to solve it, I'm here to inform you that you have a variety of options, outside of raccoon extermination. You will have a much better chance of solving your raccoon problem if you identify the root cause of the problem - are you leaving garbage outside that is attracting the raccoons? Do you have open holes in your roof - maybe the ducts or the eaves - that raccoons can use to enter the house and attic? You've got to solve these problems, so that raccoons won't have a reason to use your property or house. Read about raccoon prevention here.

If there's no way to prevent them and you need to get rid of them, then trapping is your best bet. The animals need to be trapped, removed, and relocated far away from your property. This is not always as easy as it sounds, so you may want to call an extermination company, as you may call it, or as I call it, a nuisance wildlife control company. Wildlife specialists don't kill the animals, but they trap and remove them, and fix the damage they cause - such as the openings into your house. Check on my directory for a wildlife operator in your area.

Actual Situation: David, Did you used to have a wildlife sanctuary in Canaveral Groves? If you did I believe you came to our house in Melbourne and removed 3 baby raccoons. We never could get the mother trapped. If that is you, could you please email me back. Thank you, Susan

My response: Nope, you must be thinking of a different person. I've only ever worked in Orlando, and I've never had a wildlife sanctuary.

Reply: Thank you for your reponse. I'm distraught that I have a family of raccoons from 2003 and because of an outsider in the attic my husband has contracted with Spencers pest control to get them out of the attic. My husband has been very fond of them too, but the noise in the attic last night was too much for him. I'll be down on the lawn tomorrow to supervise but I guess there is not much I can do. I've known the raccoons and their babies for a very long time.... Was hoping you could give me some advice. Would like them to just put them back over the fence and seal up the attic holes. Susan

Please be kind to raccoons! They are intelligent animals, and believe it or not, they definitely have emotions!
